The Argyroupoli Springs are one of the most beautiful natural attractions in the Chania region of Crete. Located in the traditional village of Argyroupoli, about 25 kilometers from Rethymno and within easy reach of Chania, the springs are famous for their crystal-clear waters, lush greenery, and peaceful atmosphere.
Fresh water flows continuously from natural springs in the mountains, creating small waterfalls, streams, and ponds surrounded by plane trees and rich vegetation. The area feels cool and refreshing, especially during the hot summer months, making it a popular escape for both locals and visitors.
The sound of running water and birdsong creates a relaxing environment that feels very different from the dry landscapes often seen in other parts of Crete.
Argyroupoli stands on the site of the ancient city of Lappa, an important Roman settlement. Remains of ancient mosaics, stone structures, and ruins can still be found around the village, showing its long and rich history.
The springs area is well known for its traditional Cretan taverns built among the trees and waterfalls. Many restaurants use the fresh spring water to raise trout, which is served as a local specialty. Visitors can enjoy authentic Cretan dishes while sitting next to flowing water.
